The Municipal Garden is a delightful place to walk and explore with your family. It is situated in the center of Chania between the streets
Andrea Papandreou and Tzanakaki. It was constructed in 1870 under the supervision of philhellene Rauf Pasha and it was marked as the first
charitable project of the city. In \u201cBakses\u201d, as it was called then, were planted mainly evergreen trees. The paths were plotted according to the
European standards and then layered with thick sand.
In 1918, the Garden was renovated by the arborist Konstandino Spai with new trees and plants taking its today\u2019s form. On the northeast part
of the Municipal Garden is located a remarkable Clocktower that was built in 1927 and constitutes one of the most attractive buildings of the
City of Chania.<\/p>

The garden consists of various trees, shrubs, fruit-bearing, and ornamental plants. a huge Bengal Ficus tree, which is about one and a half
centuries old, has reached an impressive size, standing proudly at the entrance of the park.<\/p>

The Kypos caf\u00e9 or Garden Caf\u00e9 is one of the oldest caf\u00e9s in Chania and it is still very popular with the locals. It has a long history, as the
building dates before World War II and it was frequented by celebrities such as Eleftherios Venizelos and Nikos Kazantzakis.
The Municipal Garden is a wonderful place for a walk with your kids because it combines a playground with swings and slides as well as a
municipal children\u2019s library. There is also an open-air cinema, which plays movies during the summer months. The Municipal Garden of
